Teacher’s Guide

Greetings teachers and parents,

Ballooning 101 is designed to provide basic information on hot air ballooning as it applies to ballooning in Boise and what children are likely to see and ask about at the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic.

It should be noted that in Boise or at any other location, weather plays a significant part in the ballooning experience. In fact, it’s all about weather. If the weather is good we can fly! If it isn’t, we can’t. Localized wind, pressure altitude, outside temperature, humidity and a host of other factors make up an individual pilot’s decision to fly or not. The factors weighed in the “fly” decision are different for each pilot.

There is so much information that goes into making a fly/no-fly decision that it is nearly impossible for us to present it in this format and have it make any kind of sense to younger children. For that, we apologize in advance.

If we can assist by answering any specific questions please do not hesitate to contact us. E-mail the event at –
